Two weeks into NFL free agency, Colin Kaepernick is still without a job for next season, and the controversial quarterback’s ongoing struggle to land a gig has sparked the interest of President Donald Trump.

Speaking at a rally in Louisville, Ky., on Monday, Trump took multiple shots at Kaepernick and cited a Bleacher Report article to fire up his Republican supporters.

“Your San Francisco quarterback — I’m sure nobody’s ever heard of him,” Trump began to a series of boos toward Kaepernick. “There was an article today, it was reported, that NFL owners don’t want to pick him up because they don’t want to get a nasty tweet from Donald Trump.”

“I said, ‘If I remember that one I’m gonna report it to the people of Kentucky — because they like it when people actually stand for the American flag.”

Bleacher Report spoke to an unnamed AFC general manager — not owner, as Trump claimed — on Friday who said some teams fear the backlash from fans and Trump while others flat-out don’t like him in the aftermath of his anthem controversy last season.

Kaepernick reportedly plans to stand for the national anthem next season, but it likely won’t stop heedless comments from Trump.
